1968 Ford LTD Rat Rod Resurrection : part 2 Inspection
2023, November 14
part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4 - part 5 - part 6 - part 7That C6 hasn't seen the light of day since it was new. And does it leak! Does it ever... It gives a GM a run for the money in the leak department.
And the 390 felt left out and also leaks every conceivable fluid to match. I swear they both are in competition for the amount which can leak more.
I see loads of bent suspension and steering parts....
That inner tie rod looks more like a boomerang at this point, and I think that lower control arm is tweaked as well.
Yuppers the engine mounts are completely separated, there's nothing but gravity holding what's left of the rubber material between the plates.
These are the tyres that came off the car. I think two of the tyres are the same size. One's a bias ply. These will go...
I can only fathom when those power disc brakes last worked. I have my work cut out for me.
There's the boomerang steering again. Agh the Ford calipers with more anti-rattle clips than I've ever seen on another caliper design....
Needs a nut. for now.
The niggle list just grows and grows....
The class II hitch that probably weighs more than a class III/IV.
The other side front brake. Well at least both sides are consistent, and in some competitions that wins a trophy.
I sure hope there's enough meat left on the rotors to resurface. These are over a hundred dollars a piece. 1968 only. Plus they are a pain to replace as the press onto the hub from behind...
It's amazing what same size rims and tyres can do and I even found a craptastic matching set of hubcaps for it. Almost seemed wrong not to put them on.
This side almost looks respectable. I said almost...
This is the first time the car has sat level since we towed it home.
Agh the money shot... haha... For sheer entertainment value, this is the best 500 dollars I've ever spent!
This concludes the introduction. Next post we'll get into the thick of it. I am splitting my time up between my rather large Caprice Classic convertible, the '66 LTD, this and electronic work. When I can post I shall do so. I have posts to catch up on the '66 LTD as well.
Hope you had a laugh or two at this one.
