Just like pretty much the rest of the soft parts on a 50 year old car, they need to be replaced.
I wasn't thrilled about the jog in the new inner felt. However, this is a case of beggars can't be choosers. When I was looking for these no one offered a listing for a 4 door hardtop. I called around and Obsolete Auto Parts makes their own in house and after taking several details about the 4 door hardtop, they made me these sets on the fly, which I must give them much credit for that kind of customer service. So it's better than the worn out originals.
Remove the old staples holding the original inner on.
Now's the best time to clean the top of the door card.
Clamp the new piece on making sure it's lined up.
You can use just about anything to secure the new ones on. But I prefer to use soft solid aircraft rivets for the ease.
Work from one end to the other or middle out.
Done, well almost, take some satin black epoxy paint and paint the rivet heads black so they blend in.
So far so good.
The LTD door card is very stylish, even compared to that of the galaxie 500 XL/7 litre.
For the outer felt, you reuse the stainless bright work, however the OEM felt is riveted onto the stainless, so drill those out and polish the stainless since you're there.
Clamp everything into place and then rivet back on.
This piece just screws onto the door shell.
